Are you absolutely sick of having those bangs sticking to your face during hot summer days? I know I was. Not having short bangs made it a million times worse. In all honesty I was just ready to chop them off at one point.
But then I discovered the wonderful world of YouTube beauty channels and Pinterest and my life was forever changed. I am now a frequent viewer of heatless summer hair tutorials, braided crown tutorials, and hair care tutorials. Trust me, once you start watching those things, they become addicting.
Anyways, as a girl with thick, long hair and extremely long bangs, I've always been looking for the perfect hairdo that would get my hair out of my face without making me look like a 12 year old boy. You know what I mean? So here are a few different ways that I like to wear my hair so that it stays out of my face, but still looks polished.
1. The Twists
This hair do is full proof for keeping you bangs out of your face. I'm not a master braider of any sort so I just like to keep it simple by making a middle part down the center of my head, taking two sections on each side and twisting them back until they meet in the middle. After that, I secure them with a smaller butterfly clip in lieu of bobby pins because thick hair = lots of bobby pins. So using a clip instead is usually a better bet for me.
If you want, after your twists are secured, you could take down a couple pieces of hair and wrap them around a 1 inch curling wand to frame the face, but that's just a preference.
This hairstyle could be worn with hair that has been straightened, curled, or even your natural hair which is the way I prefer to do it.
2. The Fishtail Now I know this braid looks like anything but easy, but trust me, I have zero hair skills and even I mastered the fishtail braid. I would highly recommend checking out a YouTube tutorial on how to fishtail braid. So for this hairstyle it is extremely simple. And when I say extremely, I mean that this will take at most a minute and a half to two minutes to accomplish. First you want to part your hair the way you usually do. To me, this looks better with a side part so I usually part my hair more toward the left. Take about a two inch section and begin braiding the section toward the back of your head. Once you've reached the desired braid length, secure with some bobby pins in an 'x' shape. Last, but certainly not least, in fact this is the most important part, start pulling the braid apart to give it a more messy and boho sort of look. I think this step totally pulls the entire look together. |
3. The Two Way Braid
I usually start by parting my hair deeply to one side, usually the left. I take about a 3-inch section and begin to braid it down the side, like in the picture, leaving the back of my head unbraided. Once you get to about the bottom of your ear, split the remaining hair into two sections and begin fishtail braiding. I usually don't braid all the way down, usually just about midway and then I tie the braid off with a clear elastic. At this point, I start pulling apart the hair in the fishtail and the french braid, just like in the previous hair style. Pulling apart your braid totally adds to the look and helps it to not look so tight. Sometimes, messy hair is way sexier than a tight pulled back do.
4. The Half up, Half down
(Ariana Grande inspired)
Like the first hairstyle, this could be worn with any kind of hair whether you've used heat on it or are just keeping it natural. This is such a sassy, but effortless look and it is by far my favorite way to wear my hair for those hot summer days.
